We're launching Battle Cancer Move Forward, a global initiative that will create a network of educated health professionals to serve those during or post-cancer treatment.

SUPPORT WHEN THEY NEED IT MOST
When people undergo or complete treatment for cancer they're often left to return to "life as usual", but for them, that no longer exists. We provide a support system and structure for them to take control of their own lives and adapt physically and mentally to take on the world around them.
Sometimes, we are the only help they have to do so.
SURVIVORS LEADING SURVIVORS
Our program puts cancer survivors in local gyms and provides them with a 10-week functional fitness course. At the end, we pick one attendee and send him/her to a seminar to receive a fitness coaches course. That coach then commits to teaching the next wave of survivors.

The entire program kicks off with a 1-day session at a local gym, where Battle Cancer delivers a mental health toolkit, a free resource for fitness professionals to learn how to support those experiencing emotional/mental health issues, and how to effectively communicate and signpost those individuals to seek more help.

PROVEN TO CHANGE LIVES
The Battle Cancer Move Forward program is based on research from CLIC Sargent’s Move Forward initiative - a study examining the impact of a 10-week functional fitness program on the fitness and quality of life with teenage and young adult cancer survivors.
The study found that the experimental group saw an overwhelming improvement in physical, emotional, cognitive, and social functioning, as well as a reduction in fatigue, appetite loss, and financial difficulties.

3 PHASES OF BATTLE CANCER
How the Program Works in a Local Host Gym
1. MENTAL HEALTH TOOLKIT
Battle Cancer Move Forward kicks off with a mental health seminar open to the host gym's staff, members and wider fitness community.
It's no secret that coaches often play therapists. At the centre of their community, gyms and coaches are perfectly placed to spot changes in a member, offer support and signpost further help.
Mental health first aid training for those at the front.
2. FITNESS AND STRENGTH PROGRAM
Supported by social workers with experience, a coach from the host gym will lead a class of tailored programming for local people affected by cancer. Two free classes a week over 10 weeks brings together the best of functional fitness with a community of peer support and shared experience of cancer.
Supporting the emotional, financial and practical needs of those impacted by cancer.
3. CANCER SURVIVOR TO FITNESS COACH
At the end of the 10 weeks, a member of the class undertakes a fitness coach certification and commits to coaching the class for the next 12 months. New coaches that are "experts through experience" are key to empowering the next wave of members.
New coaches pay it forward to create a sustainable model for the future.

The number of people currently undergoing cancer treatment or post-treatment is at an all-time high and they often have no additional support after medical treatment.
As more young people survive cancer treatment there is a greater need to support this cohort of cancer survivors - particularly for advice and guidance on fitness post-treatment.
With an army of fitness professionals ready to offer a hand to rebuild that person physically and mentally, this can have an unmeasurable impact on the millions of people affected by cancer worldwide.
