WHY BELFAST?
Belfast holds a special place in Battle Cancer history - it's the first city to host Hybrid 3|20, our brand-new individual and pairs format. When we were deciding where to launch this new challenge, Belfast was the obvious choice: a city with a fierce, community-driven fitness culture that we knew would embrace something new and push it hard.
EIKON Exhibition Centre in Balmoral Park is one of Northern Ireland's largest event spaces - purpose-built, fully accessible, with over 4,000 free parking spaces on site. It gives us the room to create a proper competition floor for Hybrid 3|20 athletes without any of the venue compromises you often see at smaller events.
Our official charity partners for Belfast 2026 are The Battle Cancer Program and Cancer Research UK. The event takes place on Sunday 16 August.
WHAT MAKES HYBRID 3|20 DIFFERENT?
1 / HYBRID 3|20 FORMAT
Hybrid 3|20 is Battle Cancer's answer to the growing demand for individual and pairs competition. Unlike the Battle Cancer Challenge, which is built around teamwork and shared work, Hybrid 3|20 is all about individual performance. Whether you compete solo or in pairs, every rep counts towards your own final score.
2 / WORKOUT FORMAT
You'll complete 3 minutes of max reps at each station, followed by 2 minutes to transition, across 9 stations in 3 challenge zones, before finishing with a 20-minute max-distance run. Your final score combines total reps, run metres and fundraising points, rewarding athletes who pace themselves intelligently from start to finish.
3 / BUILT FOR HYBRID ATHLETES
If you train for HYROX, functional fitness or hybrid racing, Hybrid 3|20 offers a familiar style of competition with a unique purpose. You'll test strength, endurance and pacing while raising funds for cancer charities, making it one of Northern Ireland's only hybrid fitness competitions with fundraising at its core.
HOW TO PREPARE
The additional 20-minute run at the end of Hybrid 3|20 makes running fitness more important here than in the team Challenge format. Build your aerobic base with regular Zone 2 running (comfortable, conversational pace) and complement it with interval work - shorter, harder efforts that train your body to perform when fatigued.
For the 9 stations, work through the same functional movement pool as the team format. The 3-minute blocks are shorter and more intense than the team event's 5-minute stations - pacing strategy is critical. Athletes who go at 90% on the first few stations and have something left for the run will consistently outscore athletes who redline early.
